How do I calculate the number of working days between two dates?

Working days (business days) exclude weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and optionally public holidays. The basic calculation: count total calendar days, then subtract weekends (approximately 2/7 of total days). For exact working days, use the working days option which excludes every Saturday and Sunday in the range. What is the difference between calendar days and business days?

Calendar days count every day including weekends and holidays. Business days (working days) count only Monday–Friday, excluding weekends. Some definitions also exclude public holidays. Shipping times and legal deadlines often specify business days - '5 business days' can be up to 9 calendar days if it spans a weekend. Payment terms (Net 30) typically mean 30 calendar days unless specified as business days.

How do I calculate days between two dates?

Subtract the earlier date from the later date to get the difference in days. The formula in most programming languages: Math.floor((date2 - date1) / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24)) in JavaScript. In Excel/Sheets: =DATEDIF(start_date, end_date, 'D') or simply =end_date - start_date (formatted as a number). For counting exclusive of endpoints (not counting the start day): subtract 1 from the total. This calculator handles the arithmetic automatically.
